Medina Community Choir, based on the Isle of Wight, is excited to join Cowes Fringe this year following successful events such as last summer’s "Name Drop" concert and a joint concert with the Bournemouth and District Concert Band. Founded in 2006 by Hannah Brear, the choir is open to all and doesn’t require music reading skills, fostering an inclusive environment. It has grown into a popular choir with over 100 members of diverse ages and backgrounds.
In August 2024, 56 members of the choir went off on our seventh tour to France where they took their award-winning gospel concert to Le Mans Cathedral, Saumur and Tours. The churches and cathedrals were bursting with residents and tourists, and it was certainly a privilege to sing in such magnificent and awe-inspiring settings. Their world class “Orchestra of the Gods”, led by the incredibly talented James Longford, also came on tour with them.
This year, they have been invited back to the Carnegie Hall in New York where they will be performing Fauré’s Requiem with other selected choirs from around the world. Following that, they will be holding a massed-choir event in July where approx. 150 people from Medina Community Choir, Gurnard Community Choir and the NHS Nightingales choir will perform Fauré’s Requiem and other classical choral and vocal works with professional orchestra, at their “Sounds Classical” concerts at The Newport Minster on 19th and 20th July 2025.
